The wind resistant aluminum ribs are strong enough to hold the umbrella's canopy, plus they don't rust. i wanted to make sure the umbrella is complete;ly sturdy so i used a base it ahd and it fit very well with the 1.5 inch aluminum pole of the umbrella.
